This was a very interesting read. It will most definitely be a family favorite every Christmas season! I would recommend this book to people and families of all ages.
a great book for Christmas quick read for the family. My grandchildren loved hearing this book on Christmas Eve, we have a new family tradition
This book has a nice balance between scholarship and spirituality. It would be perfect for a family to read one chapter at a time during family scripture study.
Interesting quite short
I have read other books by Elder Lund but all of them were works of fiction. However, they were were all well researched and I learned a lot from them. I read this one because it is about the birth of Christ, it is not a work of fiction and it is close to Christmas. If you have read any of Elder Lund's other books then you are familiar with his writing style. If not, this would be a great place to start. It is short and an easy read but worth the time.
Not his own opinions, but backed by respected religious scholars, Lund presents inspired insights into the most sacred event of history. This is a Christmas must read.
The author used true history and facts to help us better understand the birth and the date of the birth of the Savior. He researched and gave references to verify the history and the story of the birth of the Savior. It is refreshing to be able to have proven facts instead of assumptions and unverified myths. I especially loved the way he did not judge the innkeeper. We were not there so we don't know the true circumstances, the stress, or any other factors that may have entered into the decision for Mary and Joseph to rest in the stable. It may simply have been the only option available for Mary to have the privacy she needed. I enjoyed the simple unembellished facts surrounding that most glorious event in the history of mankind and recommend it for others who like the simple truth.
