Number-one New York Times best-selling author Stephen King's terrifying novella about a town engulfed in a dense, mysterious mist - as humanity makes its last stand against unholy destruction....

In the wake of a destructive Maine summer thunderstorm, an impenetrable mist descends from the direction of a local military facility and infiltrates the small town of Bridgton. David Drayton and his son, Billy, are dragged into a living nightmare as unnatural and violent forces concealed by the mist begin to emerge, wreaking havoc in their wake. Now trapped in the local supermarket with a ragtag group of survivors, David unexpectedly faces a growing threat from within, one that promises to challenge the boundaries of sanity itself. In this horrifying mist, hearing is seeing - and believing. And what you're about to hear, you'll never forget.

Originally published in his acclaimed collection Skeleton Crew, this riveting, eerie novella proves why Stephen King is a master storyteller in short form.

The Mist is my favorite King novella. I'm a big fan of Lovecraft and this, along with The Raft, are his most Lovecraftian tales IMHO. To me, this is King at his best. The story is paced well, you really come to care about the protagonist. To borrow from the story, it's an Alfred Hitchcock ending. Obviously, the book is infinitely better then either the big screen or little screen versions. The movie was ok until the ending (should have remained true to the original) and let's not even talk about the TV show.

I've recently read an idea that sort of ties this in with the DT series. The Arrowhead Project created a thinny, letting some of the things Outside into this particular Earth.

The Mist (Audible Audio Edition) Stephen King Will Patton Simon Schuster Audio Books Reviews

I watch the show and I watched the movie, so I felt inclined to read the book as well. Definitely enjoyed it. None of the 3 are exactly the same, so you really don’t know what to expect.
Great thriller but read it before watching the movie. Much more involved and deeper character development. Another Stephen King masterpiece.
I loved this story from the time I first read it in a book of short stories Stephen King had put out. I like most of his older books, but there were several that stood out and this was one of them. If you love horror, suspense, and danger, you're going to like this one.
Likes great character building (seemingly as always with his books), descriptive environments, and different from the movie which I unfortunately watched first. I think I liked how well he describes the way the characters are reacting to the situation as it occurs. People don’t just band together, and save the day during a crisis. Especially something as dark and preternatural as this, people would simply go crazy, or latch onto anything for that sliver of release from their fears.
Dislikes he even criticized it, but the ambiguity the ending brings. I enjoy being left to interpret some things, but I felt this left too much to the reader. I felt the stereotypes used are a bit played out; religious zealot, dumb country bumpkins, etc. I did feel the relationship between the main character and another supporting character was completely unnecessary, and honestly didn’t make sense. I think that he projected himself onto the main character a little which can be a turnoff for me.

All in all this is another excellent Stephen King story.
Stephen King has long been one of my favorite authors. Some books are mind boggling, but all are good. This book is one of his best works in my opinion. Thank you Stephen for the entertainment.
I got back into reading thanks to Stephen King, having stopped reading after graduating high school.
After working through some of his works, 'The Shining' being the novel that truly wet my mouth for more, I ventured off to taste the work of other authors. I was safe with the King but that couldn't be what reading was about for me, or eventually I'd find myself without anything else to read, thus giving up reading for a second and possibly final time.
So it has been a few months since my last King book, and reading 'The Mist' reminded me how potent good writing can be.
I LOVE 'The Mist'. I saw the movie first, years ago, and was dumbstruck. This novel only solidifies my gawking at his horror.
This book doesn't just present you with evil monsters outside in the mist. In fact, King reveals the monsters INSIDE the store, and the psychology of fear and anger and the deadly combination of the two.
Mob mentality is truly something to witness, and King brings us as close as he can while tempers rose and fear swallows them up resulting in death and more death.
Being as I just finished, I could ramble on forever honestly.
This is a quick, gripping novella that shows Kings teeth are as sharp regardless of his story's length.
If you haven't read any King before (how can that be?!) then this is a great story to start with. If you have experience with King but haven't experienced 'The Mist', do something nice for yourself and dive in!
I remember moving to Viriginia from NYC shortly after getting married in the fall of 1997. I was a diehard reader. Having commuted to and from work in NY, I got plenty of time to read riding on the subways. In Virginia though, specifically Northern Va, it's drive, drive, drive. My commute was 60 miles round trip daily and this cut into my read time heavily. This is where my foray into Audio books came in. I went right for one that was written by one of my favorite authors Stephen King. Confession I had actually read this book in novel format, but never listened to an audio book before. I was surprised how good the novel remained having now been acted out with actors. The movie remake was exceptional too, but nothing like the creepiness of this book when I first read it. I never get tired of reading a Stephen King novel and definitely have not lost that creepy feeling whenever I read this book over and over again. The open-ended ending leaves a bit to be desired, but it doesn't mess it up for me. It's still one of my favorite Stephen King books ever!
